Firstly, may I take this opportunity to welcome you to Lancaster High School and be the first to say how delighted we are that you have chosen to visit and see what we have to offer.
It is an absolute privilege to be the Headteacher of this wonderful school. As a parent myself, I understand the importance of choosing the right school for your child. The staff at Lancaster High School are immensely proud of what we have built, made even more special by our truly amazing pupils—some of whom you will have the opportunity to meet today.
We are an increasingly popular school with an intake of four forms. We are the smallest of all the secondary schools in our catchment area, which helps us maintain a family-oriented, community-focused school —where every pupil is known, and every pupil matters.
Following our positive Ofsted report in 2023, which highlighted many of our school’s strengths, we completed the new £8 million Ashton Building in 2024. This building provides new classrooms for maths, English, technology and science, as well as a new library with a spectacular view across the bay. It allows us to proudly say that our resources and teaching spaces are comparable to any other, offering the very best for your child. To mark this new chapter in our history, including a change of uniform, we are now simply known as Lancaster High School.
We are a school in service to our community, with inclusion at the heart of all we do. We understand the privileged position we hold when you entrust your child to our care and our key responsibility is to ensure every child achieves their academic potential. I have always believed in the power of education to change lives and provide choices. Indeed, I am a product of that belief, and it is one that will never waver.
I am passionate about every child’s right to receive the highest quality provision. My career—and now my time as Headteacher at Lancaster High School—is dedicated to providing opportunities for all children, regardless of their starting point, to excel academically and flourish in every aspect of their education.
As a school, we are committed to helping our pupils achieve and fulfil their potential. Many of our pupils perform well at GCSE, enabling them to pursue further education pathways at sixth form, college, or through apprenticeships.
Our staff are dedicated to creating a learning environment that engages pupils and stretches their thinking. Where needed, pupils are supported through high-quality intervention.
I want children to gain the excellent exam results they deserve—providing a gateway to their future—while also enjoying and valuing the journey. We place great importance on offering a wide range of enrichment opportunities, including numerous extra-curricular activities, sports fixtures, and trips. We are passionate about shaping and developing the whole child, so that all our pupils grow into confident and creative young adults who will make a positive contribution to society.
Lancaster High School is an inclusive, caring community where pupils are taught our school’s values and embraced into our school family. Additional support is provided through external agencies and community groups when necessary. Our curriculum also teaches pupils essential ‘soft skills’ such as teamwork, empathy, and self-confidence, encouraging them to develop their character and individuality alongside academic achievement.
Praise and encouragement are key, daily components of life at Lancaster High School. All pupils are encouraged to engage fully with our offer, and develop a sense of belonging here. Pupils also actively support a number of local charities and are immersed in our local community wherever possible.
We want pupils to challenge themselves and feel safe to fail, allowing them to build resilience in the process. They are supported by their teachers and our strong pastoral team. Our robust enrichment curriculum, careers support, and links to local employers help pupils imagine the possibilities for their futures.
Please take every opportunity to speak with our pupils and staff about life at our school. I hope you feel the warmth of our community, just as I did when I joined in June. I would also like to invite you to visit us during a regular school day, so you can experience first-hand the purposeful and engaging learning environment in our classrooms, and see how polite, kind, and welcoming our pupils truly are.
Mr C Malone
Headteacher
